- January 31 & February 1 after all Masses: Blessing of Throats
Saint Blaise was a 4th-century Armenian bishop, physician, and martyr, revered for his miraculous healing powers, particularly for throat ailments, and is the patron saint of those with throat problems and animals. He lived as a hermit in a cave, where sick animals would come to him for healing, and is famous for saving a boy choking on a fishbone, leading to the tradition of blessing throats with crossed candles on his feast day, February 3rd.
